HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BRIDAL SHOES: COMFORT, STYLE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

Your wedding shoes will be on your feet for an average of ten to twelve hours.

They will walk you down an aisle, stand through a ceremony, carry you through photographs, and, if the evening goes the way it should, dance until well past midnight. Choosing them is not a small decision, even if it gets treated as one.

What heel height is best for a wedding?

The heel height that you can genuinely wear for a full day without discomfort.

That sounds simple, but it is more specific than it appears. A heel you wear occasionally for three hours is a very different proposition from the same heel worn from nine in the morning until midnight. If you are not experienced in high heels, your wedding day is not the day to begin.

Block heels, kitten heels, and wedges offer height with significantly more stability than stilettos. Pointed flats, satin mules, and embellished sandals are increasingly common choices, and always the right choice if they make you feel most yourself.

What should I consider when choosing bridal shoe colour?

The traditional answer is ivory or white to match the gown. The more considered answer is: what do you want your shoes to say?

Nude and blush tones elongate the leg visibly and photograph beautifully, particularly with shorter hemlines or gowns with a split. Metallic gold or silver adds a subtle, unexpected luxury. A contrasting colour, a dusty blue, a vintage cream, can be deeply personal and entirely right.

There are no rules here. There is only intention.

Should bridal shoes match the gown fabric?

Not necessarily, though cohesion matters.

A satin shoe alongside a satin gown creates a seamless, formal look. A leather or suede shoe against a silk gown adds textural contrast and a modern edge. What you want to avoid is a mismatch that reads as accidental rather than considered.

When in doubt, take a fabric swatch to your shoe appointment.

How do I make new shoes comfortable for a long day?

Wear them in advance, genuinely wear them, not just around the house for ten minutes.

Walk on hard floors. Stand in them for extended periods. Identify any areas of friction and address them with gel insoles, padding, or heel grips before the day.

Pack a pair of flats or slides for dancing. This is not giving up on your shoes, it is giving your shoes the grace of an appropriate exit.

What is the most important thing about bridal shoes?

That you forget you are wearing them by the time the ceremony begins.

The best bridal shoe is the one that requires no management, no awareness, and no distraction. It simply carries you, beautifully and quietly, through the entirety of your day.
