HOW TO SHOP A BRIDAL SAMPLE SALE: THE COMPLETE GUIDE
A sample sale is not a compromise. For the right bride, it is the most exciting way to find a wedding gown.
At Ivory Bride, our sample collection includes gowns from some of the most beautiful bridal houses in the world, available at a fraction of their original price. Here is everything you need to know to shop one well.
What is a bridal sample sale?
Sample gowns are the gowns that have lived in boutiques, been tried on during appointments, and are now available for immediate purchase at significantly reduced prices.
These gowns have been carefully maintained and are in excellent condition, worn for try-ons, not for weddings. The benefit to you is twofold: the price is considerably lower than ordering new, and the gown is available immediately.
How do bridal sample sales work?
Sample gowns are sold as-is at a fixed price. You purchase the gown on the day, take it with you (or arrange collection), and proceed directly to alterations.
Because the gown is already made, there is no production wait time. This makes sample sales particularly well-suited to brides with a shorter timeline, or any bride who finds the right gown and wants to move quickly.
What size are sample gowns?
Sample gowns are typically held in a range of sizes, though boutiques vary. At Ivory Bride, our sample collection includes a range of sizes and silhouettes.
If a gown is slightly larger than your measurements, alterations can bring it in to fit. If it is smaller, it may be more limited. Your stylist will be honest about what is achievable, and what isn't, so you can make a confident decision.
What should I look for when shopping a bridal sample sale?
Focus on silhouette and structure before anything else. A gown that flatters your shape in its basic form can be altered, tailored, and refined. A gown that doesn't sit well on the body in principle is harder to transform.
Look at the construction. Check the boning, the seams, the hem. Minor wear can be addressed in alterations; structural issues are more complex.
Bring the same mindset you would to any appointment, openness, curiosity, and the willingness to be surprised.
Is a sample sale gown a lesser choice?
Not at all.
Some of the most beautiful brides we have dressed at Ivory Bride found their gown through our sample collection. They arrived expecting to compromise. They left with something they loved completely.
The gown doesn't care how it arrived in your story. What matters is that it did.
