THE QUESTIONS EVERY BRIDE SHOULD ASK DURING HER APPOINTMENT
A great bridal appointment is a conversation.
Your stylist brings knowledge of gowns, fit, construction, and style. You bring something equally essential: your story, your instincts, and the questions that will help bridge those two things.
Here are the questions worth asking.
How long will my gown take to arrive?
This is the most practically important question, and the one most often forgotten in the excitement of the appointment.
Production timelines vary by designer, collection, and the time of year. Knowing your gown's arrival timeline helps you plan your alteration schedule, your first fitting date, and whether the gown is right for your wedding timeline at all.
Ask it early. Plan around the answer.
What modifications can be made to this gown?
Many brides don't realise how much can be changed.
A gown that is almost perfect may be completely perfect with one small adjustment: a different neckline, a sleeve added or removed, a modified back, a shortened train. Your stylist can tell you what is possible within the design of the gown and what customisations are available through the designer directly.
How is this gown sized, and what should I order?
Understanding bridal sizing before your order is placed removes unnecessary confusion later. Your stylist should be able to explain clearly how the designer's size chart compares to your measurements and which size creates the best starting point for alterations.
What maintenance does this fabric require?
A silk gown and a polyester gown have different care needs. A lace gown requires different handling than a clean crepe. Knowing how to care for your gown from the moment it arrives, how to store it, what to protect it from, whether it needs professional pressing before the day, is information worth having early.
What is included in the price?
Some boutiques include alterations. Others recommend external specialists. Some offer a veil or accessory consultation as part of the appointment process.
Understanding what is included removes any uncertainty later, and helps you plan your total bridal budget with accuracy.
What does your instinct tell you?
This is, perhaps, the most important question, and it's one to ask yourself.
After the appointment, after the gowns have been tried and the conversation has settled: what stayed with you? What did you find yourself returning to on the drive home?
Your stylist knows gowns. But you know yourself. The best decision is the one where those two things meet.
